City Council voted 9-0-1 to declare racism a public health crisis in San Antonio, TX.

On Thursday, August 20, 2020 City Council voted 9-0-1 to declare racism a public health crisis in our city. “With this resolution, we are called to recognize the clear, unvarnished truth in how racism has shaped the health of our community” San Antonio City Council District 7.

We (SACHWA) along with My Brother’s Keeper- San Antonio, YWCA San Antonio, IDRA, the Mexican American Civil Rights Institute – MACRI, and United Communities of San Antonio (UCSA) joined in support of this resolution.

Colleagues, as you know, many of the barriers to achieving good health in our community stems from outcomes that are directly correlated to systemic and structural racism and economic segregation. Therefore, having this resolution in place serves as a vehicle towards creating policies and programming across systems and thus enable equity in the access and distribution of resources.

Below is the copy of the letter of support submitted to City Council. You are called to take action towards advancing this resolution into action items as it applies to your personal life, work and community.
